Fernley, NV at a Glance
Fernley is situated in the Reno
& Lake Tahoe area of Nevada,
about 30 mi (48 km) east of Reno on
both the Lincoln
Highway Heritage Corridor (US 50) and The
National Road (Route 40). In 1904, Fernley was officially born as a stop on
the Southern Pacific Railroad and is the only city in the United
States to bear its name. Visitors can examine the history of the area at Fort
Churchill State Park in Silver
Springs, a former Civil War military outpost that is now a historic site and
campground, with miles of hiking. Numerous recreational opportunities are found
around Fernley, such as fishing and swimming, with one nearby area found at Lahontan
State Recreation Area, located down the road between Fallon
and Silver Springs. The Reno-Fernley
Raceway attracts motor enthusiasts year-round and features three different
tracks built for speed, while the
Golf Club at Fernley welcomes golfers to spend a day on the links.
